Everything is bigger in Texas — including the conservative right, apparently. So anyway, Texas — and I'm not accusing the entire state, just a lot of it — has decided that people using the state's Medicaid program will no longer have the benefit of Planned Parenthood services.
Who am I to judge? Texas probably likes having the 5th highest rate of teen pregnancy. Why would they want to give teenagers any resources when their very reputation is on the line? That is just nonsense. Teens can go ask their parents for birth control. Everyone knows teenagers love to talk to their parents about sex, and admitting to having sex? EVEN MORE FUN. Oh it's ok though, low-income women (you know, they ones USING MEDICAID) don't get pregnant unless they totally intend to.
OH WAIT. Actually the unwanted pregnancy rate in the US is five times higher in low-income women. BUMMER DUDE.
It's totally fine though because they can just have those babies and work at a minimum wage job and everything will be AWESOME. Because $14,500 is plenty of money to live on. The cost of childcare is a mere $8,495, leaving you $6005! HEY! Use that $5 for a Caramel Frappe. You deserve it. Or just buy, you know, 20 diapers. Pish Posh. You don't need food. And birth control is only $50 a month, $600 a year. So that's no problem at all.
BUT ABORTIONS, you say. But no. Just shut up about abortions.
